The Buzz on Yellow Jackets & Bees

by Cornelius Hoover

Honey bees and yellow jackets are the most common stinging
insects in Illinois. If a bumblebee stings someone, their
stinger will stay inside you, but if it is a yellow jacket
or a honey bee, they will still have their stinger.
They are all yellow and black.

A bee lives in a beehive with alot of other bees.
Beehives can be located in a tree, in the dirt, and in
alot of other places. Bees get pollen out of flowers and
they go to their beehive and make honey. They also help
fertilize and pollenate flowers. After they make
the honey, they eat it.

I think bees are cool. I like how they suck pollen from
the flowers and make honey. I like how they sting animals
and people and how they die so you won't have to worry
about that bee again. But what I hate, is when I get stung.
