On The Inside With Ray J
Willie Ray Norwood Jr., aka known as Ray J was born in McComb, Mississippi. He moved to California with his family when he was two years old. His musical aspirations were gently nurtured by both parents. "My father directed the choir at our church so I sang there at an early age. Even though my sister started a lot earlier than me, I always knew I would get a chance to show the singer inside of me."
He started auditioning at an early age and it was no surprise to Ray J's parents that he sought and secured his first acting job at the age of eight. Many roles have followed including the part of L.J. , the son of Sinbad on the 1993 TV sitcom "Sinbad", participation in 1995's BET presentation, "When We Were Colored", with director Tim Reid and Phylicia Rashad; the 1994 HBO Special "The Enemy Within," with Forrest Whitaker, a role in the 1996 Tim Burton directed feature, "Mars Attacks," and has complete "Steel" with Shaquille O'Neal. He has also done a myriad of commercials over the years for a host of companies, including McDonald's, Denny's, Walt Disney and Nintendo.
Ray J, who played the son of Sinbad in The Sinbad Show, will once again reunite with his new pal Shaquille O Neal. Ray J will be costarring with O' Neal in this summer 's action adventure "Steel". Ray J knows the value of a good education. The 11th grader who has been educated by private tutors since junior high, wants to go to college. "Probably Morehouse or Harvard," he says. His career goals are increasing every day. He will continue to act, sing, and produce. "The great thing now is I'm able to do both, which hopefully will help me to grow," Ray J says thoughtfully. "Well, at least I have time to grow," he corrects himself, spokenlike any multi-talented 16 year old who believes there is always a ray of hope.
Brandy, whose full name is Brandy Rayana Norwood, was born February 11, 1979, in McComb, Mississippi. When Brandy was four years old, the Norwood family moved out to California, where she still lives with her mother, Sonja Norwood, her father, Willie Norwood Sr., and her younger brother, Ray J. Brandy is the daughter of a minister father and a financial analyst mother. Her parents now act as her manager and have been very supportive in her career, helping to push her forward. Although it seems that Brandy is an overnight success, she has been working toward her achievements since she was very young. With the support of her parents, Brandy took part in theatrical productions, and local talent shows, and performed at banquets, dinners, family gatherings, and anyplace else where people could listen to her sing. Brandy says: "I started going out and doing a lot of talent shows and stuff like that, and eventually I ran into a producer. He started shopping me around in L.A. when I was 11 to different record companies, and at the age of 14, I came to Atlantic Records, and that's where I got my record deal." Her 1994 debut album "Brandy" was released when she was 15; it was certified gold in just two months, and went on to triple platinum, selling more than 4 million copies. The album also earned her several awards, including four awards at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards in late 1995. Brandy was nominated for the Grammy as Best New Artist of 1996, and was named one of the Top 40 Most Fascinating People on TV by People Magazine. She also made a video with Boys II Men, did a duet with Lenny Kravitz ("Where Are You Now" on the "Batman Forever" soundtrack), performed on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, and was on the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack.
As you all know, Brandy isn't just a singer. Her second career, as an actress, has also taken off like a rocket. In 1990, she appeared in the movie "Arachnophobia" when she was just 11 years old. In 1993, she had a small role in the Sylvester Stallone movie "Demolition Man". That same year, she played the daughter, Denesha, on the television sitcom "Thea". Brandy then accepted a starring role as the lead on the sitcom "Moesha". Although Brandy has a strong career in the entertainment field, she is still continuing her formal education. She made straight A's in high school and has enrolled as a student at Pepperdine University in California, studying psychology and music.
As of this fall, Brandy will add two new responsibilities to her already full schedule. She has enrolled to attend classes at Pepperdine University, Malibu, and she has signed with a New York modeling agency and will travel to Milan, Italy in late September for her debut as a high fashion runway model.
